Course Description
This class will cover a beginner/intermediate movement vocabulary for Jazz/Contemporary Technique. The course is intended to help the student understand dance as a process of exploring movement, performing and relating to other dancers and audience. This dance technique involves the integration of contemporary movement styles with Kinesthetic development. This course will introduce the fundamentals of Jazz/Contemporary Technique.
Goals and Objectives
The goals of this course are as follows:
Follow class structure with correct placement.
Confidently execute technical Jazz movements.
Effectively complete simple combinations of movement in Centre and Traveling through Space.
Identify and self-correct placement and posture mistakes.
Perform simple and complex dance movement with poise, grace and technical ability.
Students who complete this course will be able to:
Demonstrate dance as a technically specific, physical and creative art form.
Perform the beginner/intermediate Contemporary movement vocabulary proficiently.
Perform beginner/intermediate Contemporary movement vocabulary with a level of understanding that show a progression in technique.
Speak intelligently and academically about their experiences with movement.
Be professional in their approach to class.
Identify what Jazz/Contemporary techniques are currently and what they could become.
Grow qualitatively with increased awareness.
Show a retention in skills and will be able to demonstrate simple step combinations and proper placement.
Respect for their fellow dancers, instructors, material, studio space, and guest artists.
Create and think independently about complex movements.
Have a deeper understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.
