Advising and Registration

Students need to complete and submit a checksheet to your advisor prior to advising. Your academic advisor will use this information to recommend classes for the next semester.

Note: Always include your student ID number when communicating with advisors or the department chair.

Instructions for students

The checksheets will help your advisor to get recommended courses to you as quickly as possible. If you have questions, or need assistance filling out the document, contact your advisor with your ID and available times and they can schedule a time to meet with you.

Note: Course recommendations will be based upon your accurate and complete information provided on the checksheet. The transcripts remain the final sourse of truth for completed courses.

Step 1: Getting your documents

  1. Download the checksheet for your major.

  2. Save the file with your ID and last name for the filename. Example: 8675309-smith.pdf

  3. Access your Unofficial Transcripts via mySSU. This transcript is a list of the courses you have taken, the semester they were taken, and the grade you received.

  4. If you are unable to access your transcripts, please contact the Student Business Center or the department secretary to obtain a copy. Be certain to use your school email and include your student ID number.

Step 2: Completing the PDF checksheet

  1. Open the checksheet in Acrobat Reader.

  2. Use the Fill and Sign” tools in Acrobat to complete the document.

  3. Use information from your transcripts for accuracy.

  4. Place a checkmark or X in the Complete” column for classes you have completed or are currently taking as indicated on your transcripts.

  5. Indicate the semester you have taken the course in the semester column. Examples:
    FA21 = Fall 2021
    SP21 = Spring 2021
    SM21 = Summer 2021
    TC = Transfer Credit.

  6. Add any relevant notes.

  7. After marking all courses, save the PDF. Remember, it should be saved with your ID and name in the filename.

Registration happens within MySSU. Please don’t wait until it is actually time to register to realize you have not used MySSU for a few weeks and you forgot how to use the new single sign-on! The login process for MySSU is exactly the same as the steps you use to login to Blackboard. If you are using Blackboard on a regular basis, you should not have any issues but please try it in advance to be sure.

It is important to point out that you have two separate but similar accounts. One is your Shawnee Network Account and the other is your @MyMail Email/Office365 Account

These accounts are separate but have VERY SIMILAR usernames and this can be confusing.

What do I do if I need help once I am logged into MySSU?

The process to register in MySSU is very similar to before. Look for the Student Registration area on the Student Tab to begin registering. If you receive any sort of MySSU error while trying to register or if you need assistance with any of the MySSU functions (like Registration, Financial Aid, or Billing), please submit a Student Business Center Help Form.

What do I do if I need login assistance or need to get my password reset?

Please submit an IT Support Form if you experience any issues with the login process or need to have your network password reset. Someone from our team will be in contact to provide assistance.
